Mannya’s Coffee Nursery ensures that quality and sturdy seedlings are produced to kickstart healthy growth from Day One. And the Coffee Nursery empowers local growers!
The coffee farmers at Mannya have recently built a new seedling nursery to promote more coffee growth in the region. The nursery not only allows seedlings to be grown locally but also empowers the local community to become self-sufficient in producing the coffee beans to sell onto the wider community and beyond, including international markets. By growing the seedlings locally from day one the Mannya farmers are assured of healthy and sturdy plants.
Before this, the seedlings often struggled to survive due to having to be transported from elsewhere in different soils and the variety and condition of the seedlings may have been more suited to elsewhere. The community identified this problem and quickly built and established the seedling nursery which has proven to be a viable and sustainable way to grow the seedlings which will then be planted nearby. Not only does this create jobs and security for the growers in Mannya but also allows for more healthy coffee to be grown and then sold. Some of the coffee will become specialty coffee for the international market.
Since the nursery has been built Mannya Coffee has been able to grow and produce more coffee than ever before. This is very exciting for the people from the Kifamba Sub-county, Rakai district because it proves that innovative thinking is rewarded and that Mannya Coffee can only grow from here!
